Safety tips
- Meet in a well-lit public place — a police station parking lot, busy coffee shop, or mall.
- Bring a friend or family member when meeting someone for the first time.
- Inspect items in person before you pay. Never send money in advance via wire transfer, gift cards, or apps like Zelle or Cash App to strangers.
- Do not share bank account, Social Security, or credit card details with buyers or sellers.
- Be skeptical of prices that seem too good to be true and of sellers who pressure you to act quickly.
- For home pickups or service jobs, meet at the door or in a common area when possible; avoid going inside alone with someone you do not know.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels off, walk away and report the listing.
